The Swamp Rabbit Tram Trail connects downtown Greenville with the town of Travelers Rest in the northern part of the county. Part of the trail follows a former railroad line, and much of the trail parallels the scenic Reedy River. The terrain is flat and easy to walk or ride, making it a great choice for a family outing. The southern end of the trail starts at Greenville Techs Pleasantburg campus. The northern end of the trail ends across from the Greenville Hospital Systems North Greenville Medical Campus in the town of Travelers Rest. Bicycle riders are able to catch a city bus from Travelers Rest back to Greenville. The buses are equipped with bike racks. In downtown Greenville the trail passes Falls Park, one of the citys premier attractions. The park provides a spectacular view of the 28-foot waterfall and the more than twenty acres of landscaped gardens. This beautiful park has become a gathering place for residents and tourists, as well as a popular venue for festivals and outdoor entertainment. Public restrooms are available here. Trail users may also continue east of downtown through lovely Cleveland Park to the Greenville Zoo. The halfway point of the Swamp Rabbit Tram Trail is the picturesque campus of Furman University. Trail users may detour around Furman Lake and view the main campus sites. Of particular interest are the Italian style bell tower, the Japanese Temple, and the replica of Henry David Thoreaus Walden Pond cabin. The middle portion of the trail passes through wooded areas, residential areas, and a small section of swampy area. Eventually the southern end of the trail will be extended to the Lake Conestee Nature Park south of Greenville. Trail users may want to visit some of the many shops and restaurants along the trail near Falls Park in downtown Greenville and along revitalized Main Street in Travelers Rest. The Caf @ Williams Hardware in Travelers Rest is a good place to browse and have a snack. Visitors to the Greenville area may rent bikes at Reedy Rides or at TRR Bikes along the trail in Greenville. Both rent bikes for full or half days. Walkers may want to choose a particular section of the trail that peaks their interest. The Swamp Rabbit Tram Trail provides residents and visitors to the Greenville area the chance to get outside and enjoy some healthy activities.
